Narain finishes sixth

London: Desperate to put the disappointing performance of the European Grand Prix at Nurburgring behind, Indian racing sensation Narain Karthikeyan put up a decent show to finish sixth after 35 laps during the three-day practice at Silverstone on Thursday.

Rain played spoilsport on Wednesday at the British Grand Prix circuit and limited dry running in the morning saw McLaren's Pedro de la Rosa setting the pace before heavy downpour forced the teams to end their programme. Rosa concentrated on Michelin tyre development and the Spaniard completed 63 laps, the most by any driver present.

His teammate Juan Pablo Montoya managed just 22 on his way to second place. Nick Heidfeld (1:22.044) led the Williams, followed by Red Bull's Christian Klein (1:22.556) and Ferrari's Luca Badoer (1:22.935).

Karthikeyan, meanwhile, registered a timing of 1:23.276 in the time sheets to finish sixth, ahead of William's Nico Rosberg (1:24.097). BAR, Renault and Toyota could not even start their programmes and decided to save a day of their respective testing at the Northamptonshire track.

Jordan, McLaren, Ferrari, Renault, Williams, Toyota, BAR and Red Bull drivers are scheduled to test drive at Silverstone during the three-day test. Ferrari, BAR and Toyota will also be testing in Monza in Italy during the period with Sauber being the other team.
