BANGALORE: The Government will constitute a Cabinet sub-committee shortly under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, to monitor the implementation of the Sarojini Mahishi Committee recommendations on providing employment to Kannadigas in the State public sector units, the Minister for Industries and Infrastructure, P.G. R. Sindhia, has said.

Besides employment in the State PSUs, Dr. Mahishi, a former Union Minister, had in her report recommended that each new industrial unit established in accordance with the industrial policy of the State should earmark 100 per cent of the jobs in C and D cadre to Kannadigas and ensure 80 per cent employment in all for them.

A review should be made once in five years to see whether the recommendations are effectively implemented. In case of violation, the Government can withdraw the financial assistance and incentives it has extended to such units, the committee had recommended.

In the light of a promise he made that he would take measures to ensure the effective implementation of the recommendations and the reported complaints about his inaction in that regard, Mr. Sindhia told presspersons here on Tuesday that two high- level review meetings have found that 129 industrial units have violated the recommendations.

The two separate meetings, one presided over by the Chief Secretary, K.K. Misra, and the other by the Secretary for Commerce and Industry, Gokulram, reviewed the data provided by 837 industrial units, excluding those that deal with information technology and biotechnology, established in the State in the past five years. They found a total of 129 units had violated the norms.
