MYSORE: Fourteen authors of different languages have won the Bhasha Bharathi Samman award for 2003-04 instituted by the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) here. Udaya Narayana Singh, Director, CIIL, said here in a release that the award was instituted to promote national integration and social cohesion and is given to encourage people of every region in India to learn from languages of other regions. The authors are selected for original works as also for the translated version of their works written by them in any Indian language other than their mother tongue and Hindi, Sanskrit and English. The authors selected for the award for Assamese language is Yeshe Dorge Thongchi (mother tongue - Sherdukpen) for his work "Mouna Ounth Mukhar Hriday"; for Bengali Devarshi Saroj (Marwari) for the book "Galpakar;" for Gujarati N. Ganesh Devy (Marathi) for "Adivas Jaane Chhe;" for Malayalam Neela Padmanabhan (Tamil) for "Arkante Konil;" for Marathi R.S. Lokapur (Kannada) for the work "Jnaneswaritil Kahin Upamane;" for Nepali C. Kamlowa (Mizo) for the work "Anubhav Kaa Dool Phaant;" Oriya Asim Basu (Bengali) for the work "Kathare Kathure;" Tamil Jagdish Khubehand Sahri (Sindhi) for "Kidangu Theru;" Telugu Mohammed Khadeer (Urdu) for "Darga Mitta Kathalu;" Urdu Jayant Paramar (Gujarati) for "Aur;" Kannada R.V.S. Sundaram (Telugu) for "Birugali," which was translated from Telugu; Kashmiri Sahiq Shauq (Kashmiri) for "Kanyadan" translated from Marathi; Maithili - Ram Lochan Thakur (Maithili) "Ja Skai Chi Kintu Kiye Jau," translated from Bengali and for Punjabi Vanita (Punjabi) for "Kavita Phir Ekvar," translated from Oriya. Prof. Udaya Narayan Singh said the award consists of Rs. 25,000 in cash, a shawl and a memento and will be given during August 2005.
