Focus on rural areas in north Karnataka

New industries worth Rs. 13,942 crores cleared

BANGALORE: A meeting of the High-Level Industrial Clearance Committee, chaired by the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, has cleared proposals for establishing 13 new heavy industries in the State and a five-star hotel in Bangalore. The proposals envisage an investment of Rs. 13,942.21 crores.

The Minister for Industries and Infrastructure, P.G.R. Sindhia, told presspersons here on Tuesday that the new industries would create 1,98,856 jobs. A majority of the industries have been proposed in rural areas with a focus on north Karnataka. Bharati Shipyard Limited is keen to establish a shipbuilding unit at Tannirbaavi village near Bhatkal with an investment of Rs. 95 crores (1,200 jobs). Ispath Industries Limited will set up a steel plant in Raichur with an investment of Rs. 7,144 crores (3,000 jobs). It will also set up a sponge iron plant at Allanagar in Koppal district with an investment of Rs. 64.03 crores (226 jobs).

Another steel plant will be set up by MSPL Limited at a cost of Rs. 2,292.26 crores at Halavarthy and Basapura villages in Koppal district.

The other industries that have been proposed are: Software service and BPO centre at High-Tech City in Bangalore by Wipro Ltd., with an investment of Rs. 100 crores and to provide jobs to 26,440 people. A steel plant at Halavarthy village in Koppal district by Kirloskar Ferrous Industries with an investment of Rs. 543 crores (760 jobs), a software development unit in Mysore by Larsen and Toubro Ltd. with an investment of Rs. 92.10 crores (2,000 jobs), a software technology park at Kundalahalli village in Krishnarajapuram, Bangalore, by Shyamaraju and Company Private Ltd. with an investment of Rs. 1,172.10 crores (97,600 jobs).

Another software development company at High-Tech City in Bangalore will be set up by I-Flex Solutions Ltd., with an investment of Rs. 300 crores (15,000 jobs), a software technology park in Srirangapatna taluk in Mandya district by Velanani Information Systems Ltd. with an investment of Rs. 581.50 crores (40,000 jobs), a software development in High-Tech City, Bangalore, by Sasken Communication Technologies Ltd., with an investment of Rs. 810.68 crores (9,590 jobs).
