BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court has allowed petitions by 11 live band units in Bangalore and quashed the order of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Bangalore district suspending their excise licences. Justice Ajit G. Gunjal passed identical orders on Monday and Tuesday on 11 petitions seeking to quash the May 30, 2005 order of the DC. On June 2, the court had stayed for three weeks the order of the State authorities suspending the licences of six live band units. The petitioners, Lakshwadeep and several others, said they had not been given a proper hearing by the authorities and the suspension of their licences was illegal and arbitrary. Justice Gunjal said the respondents had not considered the objections of the petitioners in detail. Nor were they forthcoming in stating the reasons for rejecting the objections. Allowing the petitions, he directed the authorities to consider afresh the petitioners' application for licences.
