Jayalalithaa opens hostels

31 ambulances given to health centres

CHENNAI: The Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, on Friday inaugurated 100 students' hostels for the Adi Dravida and Scheduled Tribes (ST) constructed in 26 districts at a total cost of Rs. 31.50 crores. She also laid the foundation stone for 66 hostels and school buildings to be built in 17 districts at a cost of Rs.19.18 crores.

The Chief Minister also handed over pattas to 25 beneficiaries under the scheme to distribute land to the Adi Dravida and ST women, at the Secretariat.

Ms.Jayalalithaa distributed prizes to the best performing Adi Dravida and ST students in the Standard X and Standard XII examinations.

She also handed over 31 ambulances worth Rs. 1.58 crores to 31 primary health centres, including the ones at Devadhanapatti in Theni district, Mailam in Villupuram district, Vazhapadi in Salem district and Tiruppukkuzhi in Kancheepuram district.

Fifteen cars worth Rs. 65.61 lakhs were handed over to 15 agricultural marketing societies, including Vellore, Coimbatore, Tiruvannamalai, Erode, Thanjavur, Madurai and Tiruchi.
