Tania Sachdev stays on course

NEW DELHI: Tania Sachdev stayed on course of her final Woman Grandmaster title-norm following a draw with German International Master Dimo Werner in the sixth round of the First Saturday chess tournament in Budapest on Friday.

Tania, who now shares the second spot with two others at 3.5 points, needs another 1.5 points from four outings to gain her final WGM norm.

Eesha Karavade, the other Indian girl in the fray, crashed to her fourth loss after surrendering with white pieces to Hungarian Attila Jakab.

The results (sixth round):

Eesha Karavade (Ind, 1) lost to Attila Jakab (Hun, 3.5); Denes Boros (Hun, 4) bt Zdenko Stupavsky (Scg, 1.5); William Paschall (USA, 2.5) drew with Lajos Seres (Hun, 3); Dimo Werner (Ger, 2.5) drew with Tania Sachdev (Ind, 3.5); Michael Hoffman (Ger, 2.5) drew with Attila Czebe (Hun, 3.5); Ivan Farag (Hun, 2.5) bye.
