Aditya emerges leader

NEW DELHI: Aditya Vikram defeated Vaibhav Khanna to become the sole leader after the sixth and penultimate round of the under-10 section in the LNJ Bhilwara students' chess tournament at the Botwinnik Chess Academy here.

Aditya, with a one-point lead, needs just a draw in the final round to clinch the title.

In the under-17 section, Sankalp Modwal and Hemant Sharma shared the lead with 6.5 points from seven rounds. Two more rounds remain in this section.

The results:

Under-10 (sixth round): Vaibhav Khanna (5) lost to Aditya Vikram (6); Aditya Mittal (4.5) lost to Abir Sinha (5); Aman Chawla (5) bt Meharjot S. Kala (4.5); Himani Sharma (5) bt Rahul Chowdhary (4); Jai Gautam (4) lost to Somya Sharma (5); Yogesh Gautam (5) bt Mahima Gupta (3.5); Aman Jakhad (3.5) lost to Vaibhav Suri (4.5); Aganjot S. Kala (3) lost to Parth Bhatia (4); Anmol Lall (4) bt Praneet Singla (3); Sarthak Gupta (4) bt Arjun Banerjee (3).

Under-17 (seventh round): Sankalp Modwal (6.5) bt Kunal Gupta (5); Sandeep Singh (5) lost to Hemant Sharma (6.5); Sahaj Grover (5) lost to V. Sandheep (6); Ankit Khattar (5) drew with Keshav Sharma (5); Dhara Gupta (5.5) bt Akshat Aggarwal (4.5); Pallavi Dutta (5) drew with Rishi Thariani (5); Abhishek Jain (4) lost to Ram Gupta (5); Nitya Ahuja (4) lost to Abhimanyu Singhal (5); Akanksha Narain (5) bt Neetyakshya Singh (4); Bhavya Khattar (4) lost to Vineet Nanda (5).

Sixth round: Hemant drew with Sankalp; Keshav lost to Sahaj; Kunal bt Nitya; Sandheep bt Bhavya; Rishi drew with Dhara; Pallavi drew with Ankit; Akshay lost to Sandeep Singh; Akshat bt Sachin Tokus; Ram bt Sidharth Bhatia; Abhimanyu bt Sahil Sankhla.
