Power cut

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in parts of Kondithope, Tiruvottiyur, Tondiarpet, S.K.Nagar, Anna Salai, Valasaravakkam, Santhome, Virugambakkam, R.K.Nagar, ICF and Park Town between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday for maintenance.

Health camp

About 200 persons were screened at the Narayana Seva camp organised by Hindu Mission Hospital, Tambaram on Sunday at Keelur near Guduvanchery. A team of seven doctors treated patients for specialities, including dental, ENT and skin and referred 16 of them for eye-related surgeries and three for other surgeries.

Award for accident-free driving

S. Premkumar, who was working as a driver in Tamil Nadu Archives and Historical Research, Egmore for two decades, was awarded with a gold medal for his driving without causing accidents.

Tamil Nadu Archives special commissioner Arun Ramanathan gave away the award on Friday. R.Chinnakani, editor gazettiar and K.Subramanian, secretary, Tamil Nadu Ministerial association also participated.

Boys held on the Marina beach

Eleven boys were found selling `sundal' and other items at Marina and Elliots beaches during a raid conducted by Labour department officials along with police and Chennai Corporation officials on Wednesday and Thursday. The boys were admitted in the Government Juvenile's Home at Royapuram and steps are being taken for their education and rehabilitation.

Anniversary celebrations

Sri Arunagirinatha Bhaktha Jana Sabha's 68th anniversary celebrations would be conducted from Monday to June 26 at Kandaperumanar Temple, Shanmugagnanapuram, Kosapet.

Ganja leaves found in train

Two suitcases containing ganja leaves were found on coach H 5 of the Guwahati-Eranakulam Express (train no. 5624) on Sunday morning.

According to Railway police, on a routine check of the train after it arrived on platform six, they found two abandoned suitcases. Together, they contained 30 kilos of ganja leaves. The owner of the luggage disappeared.

Thirunakshatram

The 61st Thirunakshatram celebrations of Mukkur Lakshminarasimhachariar, which started on Saturday, will end on June 23 at Mattapalli in Andhra Pradesh. The celebrations include Vedaparayanam, Trikala puja and discourses.

Succumbs to injuries

A 34-year-old man died on Thursday night, two weeks after he was injured in a motorcyle accident at St. Thomas Mount and hospitalised. According to police, Srinivasan of Manthoppu Colony in Ashok Nagar, skidded when the motorcycle he was riding got trapped in the slippery sand at the junction of the Mount — Poonamallee Road and the GST Road.
