CHENNAI: Moved by a news item published in these columns featuring a young boy collecting funds for his mother's heart operation, the South Korean Association in Chennai organised a fund-raising programme at the Gymkhana Club on Sunday. Since the 11-year-old had received Rs. 1.23 lakh from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund for the operation, the Association decided to continue with the event and give the funds collected to other people in need. S.M. Shim, chairman of the Association, and S.S. Yang, managing director, Hyundai Motor India, and around 60 members from the Association participated in a golf tournament. Before the tournament, the dropped in money at the cash box. With money pooled in from the Association a sum of Rs. 1.5 lakh will be given to persons identified to have a need for the amount.
