CHENNAI: Thieves broke into a house at Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar and took away jewellery weighing 75 sovereigns and Rs. 10,000 in cash on Tuesday.

Police said the husband and wife were working in BSNL and their daughter went to school. They left home after locking their house on Andal Avenue in Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar around 9.30 a.m. Their daughter who was the first to return around 4.30 p.m. noticed that the lock was broken open. She informed her parents, who filed a complaint with the Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar police.

A senior police officer who visited the scene of the crime said the family had left the key close to the bureau, which made the intruder's job easy. Central Crime Branch police arrested two persons on Tuesday on charges of cheating a resident of Kodambakkam to the tune of Rs. 10.9 lakhs.

According to police, S. Vetrivelan of Dayalan Nagar, Kodambakkam, in his complaint said that R.
