Letters to the Editor
The revelation that three suicide bombers who struck terror in London were young men of Pakistani origin is shocking. It is a reminder of the extent to which the religion of peace and brotherhood has been misinterpreted.
M. Jeyaram,
* * * The fact that the three were bred in Britain and belonged to respectable Muslim families is startling. The trepidation gripping the Muslim population in London is understandable. The vast majority of Muslims are peace loving and should be made to feel secure. Extremists should be isolated with the cooperation of Muslims themselves.
N.K. Vijayan,
* * * According to reports, two of the three bombers visited Pakistan in the recent days. The Indian stand that Pakistan is a hotbed of terrorism has been reinforced. The truth, which the West has never acknowledged, is staring Britain in the face. It is time the West turned its attention to the Pakistani camps.
A.V. Narayanan,
* * * Tony Blair's efforts to mobilise the moderate voice of Islam should begin with Pakistan. It was his pal George Bush who found in Pakistan a great ally after 9/11. The U.S. should have begun in Pakistan, not Afghanistan.
David Peniel,
* * * An attempt seems to be on to portray 7/7 as an isolated incident to deflect attention from the failure of the war on terror. Even if the bombers were British citizens, the involvement of an international terrorist group in the meticulous planning that has gone into the attack cannot be overlooked.
K. Vijayakumar,
* * * It is unfortunate that the blasts have once again projected the Muslim community in a bad light. Muslims the world over should make a bold statement that those who involve themselves in terrorist activities cease to be Muslims.
V.S.M. Nagendra,
