False alarm at Raj Ghat

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: : A loose granite stone at the Raj Ghat complex triggered a false alarm on Friday. A granite slab on the `samadhi' platform had come loose and fearing it had been vandalised, a concerned Gandhian informed the police.

As the news spread, officials at the Raj Ghat Samadhi Committee came out with a denial. "The stone became loose and shifted from its place because of the heat. We then removed two other slabs and called the labourers immediately so that we could repair them all together. The problem is that the granite slabs are fixed to the samadhi with a chemical substance and it melts in the heat. This is a routine repair,'' said Rajnish Kumar, Secretary of the Raj Ghat Samadhi Committee.
