Special Correspondent
SRINAGAR:
The Anantnag police has arrested 11 Hizb-ul Mujahideen militants, who were allegedly responsible for the killing of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's nephew and Minister of State for Home A.R. Veeri's brother.
Director General of Police Gopal Sharma told reporters on Friday that the militants, who had been recruited by top Hizb commanders to create terror in south Kashmir, were involved in the killing of Mr. Sayeed's nephew, Atiqullah Shah, in May and that of Mr. Veeri's brother. They had also attempted to kill Mr. Veeri and carried out attacks in Bijbehara.
One of the ultras, Sajad Ahmad Bhat, had disclosed that he was paid Rs. 6,000 for killing Mr. Veeri's brother.
The interrogation of the militants, in the age group of 18 to 24 years, had revealed that they had been told by Jehangir, who was responsible for their indoctrination, to hurl grenades in crowded places to cause maximum damage.
