Rane warns of action against more MLAs

Special Correspondent

Already explanations sought by Speaker from 23 MLAs

MUMBAI: Expelled Shiv Sena leader Narayan Rane on Friday threatened action under the anti-defection law against more legislators of his former party. Mr. Rane has already petitioned Speaker Babasaheb Kupekar demanding action against 23 MLAs who had not attended a meeting convened by him after he was expelled. Mr. Kupekar has asked the legislators to submit their explanations.

The former Leader of the Opposition told reporters here that he was considering similar action against other MLAs of the Shiv Sena. As many as 52 legislators of the Sena's 62, had attended the meeting that elected Mr. Ramdas Kadam as the party leader in the Assembly in place of Mr. Rane.

Mr. Rane, who maintains that all the 62 members were liable to attend his meeting since on that day he continued to be the legislative party leader and had got issued a three-line whip, had said earlier that he had excluded 26 members who had informed him about their inability to attend his meeting because they were confined by the Shiv Sena leadership in a hotel. But he said now that he could complain against more legislators.
