HOKKAIDO: Despite finishing runner-up to teammate Kasuhiko Taguchi in the Rally of Hokkaido, the fourth round of the Asia Pacific Rally championship for cars which concluded here on Sunday, Team MRF Tyres' Jussi Valimaki continues to lead the drivers' standings with 55 points. The Finn is comfortably ahead of Taguchi and New Zealander Geof Argyle, joint-second with 25 points, and third-placed Toshihiro Arai (19). However, Valimaki's two APRC wins so far this year have both owed something to the misfortune of others. It was no different this time as well though it was Taguchi who gained most as overnight leader Arai, driving a Subaru Impreza WRX, spun out of the race in the 11th stage after sliding into the ditches and rolling over. The Finn is keen to score a clear victory in the following round in Malaysia, to be held from August 19 to 21. Taguchi was pleased with the victory. A triumph here had been eluding the bespectacled Japanese since 2001 _ often within sight of the finish.
