Minister promises help for tourism in North Kerala

Work on two tourism projects begin

KOZHIKODE: Tourism Minister K.C. Venugopal on Saturday renewed his promise to make all out efforts to give the North Kerala region a prominent place in the tourism map of the State while inaugurating works on two tourism development schemes in Kozhikode.

While flagging off work on Kalipoika project near Canolly Canal, the Minister promised it would be completed by January 31. Kalipoika is part of the ambitious Dream City project that would spread over 269 acres, if and when it is executed.

The Minister said for the work he had launched on Saturday, the Tourism Department would spend Rs one crore.

It would be used for a boat-jetty, an impressive entry point, repairing a 300-metre road, setting up a tile-paved footpath, repairing pedal-boats and for a children's park.

While reiterating the Government's resolve to develop tourism facilities in a big way in North Kerala, the Minister pointed out that work on development of tourist amenities at scenic Peruvannamuzhy and Kakkayam was progressing. These projects were expected to be completed next year.

The Minister also inaugurated works on the Poyyilkavu- Toovalpara -Kappad road for which Rs. 58 lakhs had been earmarked by the Tourism Department.

The road is expected to attract more tourists to Kappad.

Speaking at the function, Mr. Venugopal pointed out that a Rs 1.5 crore development plan for Kappad had been readied. .
