Tengku Abdul Rahman, the royal prince who heads Malay's first elected Government, has reiterated the demand for independence for Malaya from Britain within four years. Speaking at the opening of the new Legislative Assembly of the colony on August 31, the Tengku, whose Triple Alliance of Malay, Chinese and Indian organisations swept the polls in Malaya's first elections last month, pointed out that none of the measures undertaken by security forces could bring the eight-year-old war against insurgents to an end.
