This Day That Age
India beat Holland by three goals to one in the second international hockey match at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam on August 31. The Indians led 2-0 at half-time. A crowd of 12,000 saw India gain a deserved victory. India took the lead in the sixth minute through their inside-right Udham Singh. Nine minutes later centre-forward Balbir increased their lead to two goals. Twenty minutes after the restart Udham Singh, captain of the team, beat the Dutch goalkeeper for the third time. Greater skill, better positional playing and clever finishing gave the Indian team their success.
