THANJAVUR: The Collector, M. Veera Shanmugha Moni has appealed to all the 589 panchayat presidents in the district to make the Namadhu Gramam scheme, "a success".Delivering the valedictory address at the conclusion of a two-day residential workshop for panchayat presidents on `Namadhu Gramam' scheme at Pattukottai on Wednesday, he said that all the panchayat presidents should strive for achieving the first position (`A' grade) in the implementation of Namadhu Gramam scheme. A sum of Rs.three lakhs will be given as award for villages achieving "A" grade. The scheme envisages a wholesome village in all aspects. There should be no dropout from schools, infant mortality should be brought down, poverty should be eradicated, public health should be improved with improvement sanitation facility. With a view to achieve this goal, training was given to the panchayat presidents. He advised the panchayat presidents to put up RWH structures, bring into effect cent per cent toilet use in their areas, use of waste lands for raising fodder and other purposes, immunise children to prevent nutrition deficiency. P. Rajendran, Project Officer, DRDA, Shankar, RDO, Narayanaswamy, Tahshildhar and Sambasivam, Pattukottai Panchayat union chairman participated.
