Congress to finalise candidates tomorrow

Jakkampudi, other leaders to tour all seven municipalities, Kakinada Corporation today

  • Municipalities to get Rs.2,000 crores this year: Minister

    RAJAHMUNDRY: Minister for Roads and Buildings Jakkampudi Ramamohana Rao has announced that the Congress will finalise candidates and municipality-wise manifestos in East Godavari district by Saturday.

    Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Rao said that he along with his ministerial colleague Gollapalli Suryarao and PCC members — D. Nagender and B. Satyanarayana — and DCC president Thota Narasimham will tour all the seven municipalities and Kakinada Corporation on Friday and Saturday.

    On first day, the Congress leaders will tour Tuni, Pitapuram, Kakinada, Samalkot and Peddapuram and on Saturday, Ramachandrapuram, Mandapeta and Amalapuram. Mr. Rao said that the team would finalise probable contestants after discussing with local leaders in each municipality.

    He said that the party would field candidates with good reputation, winning chances and understand local issues.

    Answering a question, the Minister said that the State Government would speak to the State Election Commission on voting right to MP and MLA in chairperson and vice-chairman election.

    Rs.300 cr. for roads

    The Minister said that Rs.300-crore HUDCO loan was released to fund important roads in all municipal towns. He said the State has given Rs.300 crores for urban areas.

    He recalled that Rs.2 crores for each municipality was released under World Bank fund of Rs.1,380 crores.

    He said the municipalities would get Rs.2,000 crores this year.
