Seer wants revival of traditional medicine

Correspondent

SIRSI: "Traditional medicine is in vogue from times immemorial in our country. It has survived amidst modern medical systems as it is found useful in treating several diseases. Traditional medicine should be protected and its practitioners should pass on their knowledge to their next generation," Swarnawalli Gangadhrendra Saraswati Swamiji has said.

Inaugurating the State-level traditional medicine practitioners conference at Sonda Swarnawalli Mutt's Sudharma Hall on Wednesday, he said physicians earlier had total knowledge of the human anatomy.

Uttara Kannada has a large number of traditional medicine practitioners compared to other districts as many medicinal plants are found here.

But the practice is on the verge of extinction owing to globalisation, he said.

Upendra Shenoy of the Janapada Vaidya Parishat delivered the keynote address. B.S. Somashekhar, Vasudev, Siddaraju, F.R. Gowda and Shridhar Desai were present on the occasion.

About 120 traditional medicine practitioners and 40 delegates from all over the State were present.

G.V. Joshi welcomed the gathering and S.R. Hegde Bhairumbe proposed a vote of thanks.
