NEW DELHI: Deputy Chief Minister M.P. Prakash on Thursday criticised information technology and biotechnology companies in the State on the grounds that they have not made any contribution for relief work in the flood-affected areas. Speaking to presspersons here, he said, "IT and BT companies have been vocal in demanding better physical infrastructure in Bangalore. But they have not made any contributions for the flood relief work." He also pulled them up for remaining confined to Bangalore and not expanding to other areas in the State despite the various incentives offered by the Government. "Infrastructure does not mean only tangible physical ones like better highways or international airports. It includes intangible ones like availability of skilled manpower at low cost, he said." Besides Bangalore, other areas in the State, he said, also had several renowned training institutions and, consequently, plenty of skilled manpower. In fact, much of the manpower employed by the IT companies in Bangalore comes from such areas. The companies must tap the resources wherever it is available, he said. Decongestion of Bangalore is essential because the increasing pressure of population is increasing prices of all commodities, subjecting the common man to great difficulty, he added.
