KAKINADA: The founder and National Coordinator of Lok Satta, Jayaprakash Narayan, said that if democracy was to be purposeful, the process of holding talks for settling problems should continue and the door should be kept open for such a dialogue. Replying to queries of mediamen at a press conference here on Thursday evening on how far he was justified in supporting the naxalites taking up arms for achieving their goal, he clarified that his remarks were misconstrued. "My view should be understood in its totality. What exactly I meant was that there would be heartburn leading to violence in some section or the other as long as they have a feeling that they were the aggrieved and injustice was meted out. The rulers should strive for not giving scope for such kind of violence by finding out solutions to their problems in accordance with the constitution. Nobody has a right to act extra-constitutionally either the Government or the people." He said in a democracy the door should be always kept open for dialogue to solve the problem however critical it may be.
`Ban no solution'
On the imposition of the ban on Virasam, Dr Jayaprakash Narayan said that Constitution had accorded freedom and it was the duty of the Government to ensure that every section enjoys the same within the framework of the Constitution. "So much so those demanding freedom should not exceed their limits. Nobody has the right to conspire and destabilize a democratically elected government in an undemocratic manner by subverting the Constitution. Even the Government also should not act contravening the Constitution," he said. However, he made it clear that imposition of ban on anyone was not a permanent solution.
