Mental health forum launched

Staff Reporter

HYDETABAD: Osmania Medical College Doctors' Forum has launched the `National Forum on Community Mental Health Services.'

The forum will help generate awareness on mental disorders to promote community based psychosocial rehabilitation services and also get feedback from individuals suffering from any disorder and the NGOs working in the mental health sector, according to the forum president K. Suresh.

Dr. Suresh and the Associate Professor of Psychiatry, K. Ashok Reddy, said the 2001 World Health Report on Mental Health recommended replacing large mental hospitals with community psychosocial rehabilitation facilities, which could extend better and earlier care by helping the affected remain in the community. The individuals, families, NGOs and mental health professionals could share their experiences about community-based rehabilitation projects with the forum by e-mailing to osmaniadoctors@gmail.com by Sept.30 or to Post Box 531, Hyderabad- 500095.
