Coconut Day to be observed

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Tomorrow is being observed as World Coconut Day as part of the steps to focus global attention on the importance of the coconut. It is the founding day of the international agency, the Asian Pacific Coconut Community, the headquarters of which is in Jakarta in Indonesis that is being observed as the Coconut Day. The slogan of the year relates to the protection of nutrition provided by the coconut. As the slogan implies, steps will be taken to popularise the benefits of the coconut and coconut products.

The medicinal value of coconut oil and tender coconut water will be highlighted. The function being organised by the Coconut Development Board to mark the day will be inaugurated by Agriculture Minister K. R. Gouri in the Institution of Engineers Hall here. The chairperson of the Board Mini Mathew will preside.
