THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Election Commission has rejected a complaint filed against Finance Minister Vakkom Purushothaman of violating the model code of conduct. Deputy Leader of the Opposition Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had accused Mr. Purushothaman of violating the code by inaugurating the intensive care unit of the Attingal Government Hospital on August 28, after declaration of elections to local bodies. Mr. Purushothaman clarified that while the Government made the declaration, he was not in office and was out attending a programme. He came to know of it only after returning to his official residence. Since the programme was held hours after the declaration, the commission accepted the clarification and rejected the complaint.
