Commodity prices

The following were the rates (in rupees per kg) of essential commodities in the local wholesale market on Thursday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry:

Groundnut oil - 53, palmolein oil - 38.25, sunflower oil - 48, tamarind (flower variety) - 20 to 28, tamarind (karipuli variety) - 42 to 48, chillies (new) - 10 to 12, rice (2716) - 13, rice (super fine) -15, rice (sona masoori) -17 to 19, rice (samba masoori) -16 to 17.50, black gram - 28 and red gram - 25 to 30.50.

Bhavani Islands to

get face lift

The Union Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned Rs. 5 crores for development of Bhavani Islands. In a letter addressed to Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, Union Minister of State for Tourism (independent charge) Renuka Chowdary said that Rs. 4 crores was released to the Andhra Pradesh Government for tourist circuit and other tourism projects. These works were being executed through the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation.
