Building workers seek pension hike

CHENNAI: : Members of the Tamil Nadu Construction workers Central Welfare Association observed a fast at Chromepet on Monday to highlight their charter of demands. .

The workers under the chairmanship of State president Nellai S. Mahalingam wanted increase in the monthly pension from Rs.200 to Rs.500, free cycles to those who had registered with the association and extension of the time limit for those who had failed to renew their pension eligibility status.

Mr. Mahalingam said construction workers faced severe occupational hazards and that the Government should review their decision to give pension from the age of 50. The cost of living definitely demanded a review of the pension amount, he added.
