Campaign against child labour

CHENNAI: The Chennai Corporation is planning a city-wide crackdown on child labour beginning October 1.

A committee set up by the Corporation in co-ordination with the Labour Department, Industries Department and the City Police will keep a track on all industries, workshops and eateries to check if they employ children of 14 years and below.

A Corporation release here warned that employers of children would be prosecuted under the Child Labour (Prohibition and Elimination) Act of 1986.
