Special IIM course for officials

Course on public policy to commence from 2007

AHMEDABAD: The board of governors of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, has decided to start a special course on "Public Policy'' for the government officials and non-government organisations.

The one-year course, expected to start from June, 2007, academic year with 30 students, will try to educate and train the government officials involved in executing various policies and programmes in the larger public interest and the NGOs motivating the people for taking proper advantage of such policies.

The board, which met here today under the chairmanship of Mr. N. R. Narayana Murthy, also reviewed the progress made in about 20 special courses and programmes introduced by the IIMA in the last two years, according to the institute director, Bakul Dholakia. The Reliance Infocom chairman Anil Ambani, who was in Gandhinagar to attend the second annual convocation of the Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology, also attended the board meting.

It also set up a task force for giving final touches to the proposed management training course for the on-job private sector executives scheduled to be started from the next academic year.

Mr. Murthy told the media persons that the IIMA would make endeavours to become a ''truly global'' business school in the next 10 years competing with reputed management institutions like Harvard and such other internationally-recognised institutions. He said lately IIMA had earned a global reputation, but it still was not attracting enough foreign students.
