It is women's university after all!

Bill piloted by Minister has no provision for retaining Telugu name

HYDERABAD: Much against the undertaking given by the authorities of Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswavidyalayam not to change the university's name, Higher Education Minister P. Koteswara Rao introduced a Bill in the Assembly on Thursday to anglicise the varsity name. The university Registrar had given the undertaking that the original Telugu name would be retained and the English name would be used only for practical purposes. This followed an stir by Telugu Bhasha Vikasa Udyamam and Official Languages Commission against the proposal. Commission chief A.B.K. Prasad expressed anguish that the varsity had gone back on its promise.
