FERVENT APPEAL: Women of Suprabhat Nagar near Balkampet making a point during the visit of Mayor Teegala Krishna Reddy on Thursday. Photo: P.V. Sivakumar
HYDERABAD: Emotional scenes were witnessed when Mayor T. Krishna Reddy and MCH Commissioner Sanjay Jaju visited Leela Nagar on Thursday to examine the feasibility of laying a link road connecting the proposed Road Under Bridge near the railway track at Balkampet. Residents objected to the proposal as they said their premises would be affected. Some women broke down and requested the Mayor and others not to lay the road through their colony. Originally it was proposed to lay a 60-feet road connecting the RUB from Brahmanwadi to Nature Cure Hospital. Since there is not sufficient space to take the RUB, the MCH decided to look for other alternatives. As the Mayor, his deputy Subhash Chanderjee, Standing Committee chairman D. Mohan inspected the site the locals gathered and raised objections. If the road was laid here, 20 legally permitted buildings would be affected while the original proposal would affect only a few structures, they said.
Move opposed
The colony had already surrendered one third of the area for roads and park. "Very recently new building complexes have come up here after prior approval. If road widening was to take place why they were sanctioned," asked V.K. Raman, president, Suprabhat Nagar Colony Association. The MCH Commissioner said they were three alternatives before the corporation. "We will examine them and decide on the best option. Nothing is finalised yet," he said. Earlier, the Mayor inspected a swimming pool at the MCH Multipurpose Indoor Stadium at Ameerpet. He expressed his annoyance at the slow pace of work. Though the stadium was inaugurated in March, the swimming pool was yet to start functioning.
