CHENNAI: Plans are afoot for joint agreements between Russian educational institutions and the Anna University, its Vice-Chancellor D. Viswanathan has said. Such collaboration would promote an exchange of academic and cultural resources, he said. Inaugurating an exhibition to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Russian Centre for International Scientific and Cultural Cooperation on October 10, Mr. Viswanathan commended the technical expertise offered by institutions of higher learning in Russia. Noting that India and Russia had several interesting traditions, the Vice-Chancellor stressed the importance of culture and identity. "Young people should maintain Indian culture. The Anna University is taking steps to ensure this," he said, making an indirect reference to the dress code he had set for the students.
Letter of greeting
to Moscow
Mr. Viswanathan also signed a letter of greeting that would be sent to Moscow as a mark of friendship. Vladislav V Antonyuk, Consul-General of the Russian Federation in Southern India, and Stanislav I Simakov, Director of Russian Cultural Centre, said that all steps would be taken to strengthen educational and cultural programmes.
Russian dolls, craftworks exhibited
Historical photographs, Russian handmade dolls and craftwork were on display at the celebrations. Winners of an oratorical competition conducted by the Russian Cultural Centre were awarded.
