State's stand on projects decried
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
The Bharatiya Janata Party has criticised the Government's stand that Pranahita, Dummagudem and Inchampally projects be taken up as national projects. It demanded an all-party meeting to discuss the issue.
Senior BJP leader Ch. Vidyasagar Rao told presspersons here on Tuesday that there was no instance of the Centre taking up any project as a national scheme and that it could only extend assistance. This was also made clear in Parliament in the past when similar demands were raised by MPs from different States.
Faulting the Government for not including the projects in the Jalayagnam, he said that it should change its stand. It would send wrong signal to the people. A report prepared by the Institution of Engineers India had pointed out that there was an overall deficit of 395 tmcft for all projects in Telangana and that executing Pranahita and Dummagudem projects would reduce it to some extent.
