Lok adalats settle 55 cases

CHENNAI: The High Court Legal Services Committee settled a total of 55 cases involving a settlement of Rs. 1.23 crores in the month of September.

According to the Committee Secretary and District Judge, C. Chinnappan, a total of 177 cases were taken up for disposal in the seven lok adalats conducted in the month. Of the 177 cases, 55 were settled and 37 were adjourned. Another 85 cases were referred back to courts concerned for adjudication, Mr. Chinnappan added.

Among the cases taken up and settled were motor accident appeals involving transport corporations and insurance companies, family disputes and fair rent cases. The Committee, functioning under the auspices of the Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority (TNSLSA), incurred an expense of only about Rs. 24,800 for holding these adalats, Mr. Chinnappan said.
