Power cut

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended on Thursday in parts of V.O.C.Nagar including Corporation Colony, Gandhi Nagar and part of SA Koil Street between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for maintenance work.

Eye camp

Thirtyfour persons were screened at a free eye camp organised by SMILE in association with Vijaya Hospital on Saturday. Of this, six were referred for cataract surgery to be performed at Uma Eye Clinic, Anna Nagar.

Course on mind power

A workshop on alpha mind power would be conducted by J.Vijayakumar at 41C/1, new no.72, New Street, Kaladipet from Friday onwards. The fee for the course, which would help build successful life, is Rs. 950. For details, contact phone no: 55674005 or 25994436.

Programme on speed mathematics

A three-day programme on speed mathematics would be conducted from October 23 between 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 a.m. The training would be for students aged between eight and 18 which includes teach speed addition, multiplication and speed square roots. Workshop

Students of Rajalakshmi Engineering College learnt about energy security and audit, mechanical energy conservation at a workshop on energy conservation and audit held recently. Three experts from Petroleum Conservation and Research Association enlightened the students on various aspects through case studies.

Sunday train schedule

In view of the increasing commuter traffic on the suburban section Southern Railway will maintain Saturday pattern of service on Sundays from October 23 to January 15, according to a railway press release.

Blood donation

A blood donation camp was organised by the NSS, NCC and Rotract Club of A.M.Jain College on Tuesday. Professor (Maj.) K. Sethuraman inaugurated the camp. About 150 volunteers donated blood. The college has been conducting such camps for 28 years. The collected blood units were sent to the VHS - TTK blood bank.

Training programme

A training programme to improve the skills of placement officers was recently organised at the MNM Jain Engineering College. About 40 colleges from different parts of Tamil Nadu participated. Managing Director of Elcompo Electronic Industries inaugurated the programme.

Oratorical competition

An oratorical competition on road safety was jointly organised by Maharishi Vidya Mandir and State Bank Retired and Serving Employees Forum on Monday. Traffic police officer Natarajan urged students to avoid footboard travel, follow traffic rules and drive safe. S Snehanjani of standard VIII bagged the first prize in the speech contest.
