Cash stolen from plastic shop; insider role suspected

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Unidentified persons took away Rs. 86,000 from Swathy Agency, a plastic material shop located at Kholsawadi in Begumbazar, on Monday night.

The Afzalgunj police did not rule out the role of some insiders in the commission of the crime as the miscreants tried in vain to make it look like a shutter lifting case.

The shop's rear shutter was designed in such a way that only turning the lever from inside could open it. "Apparently to mislead us, the miscreants lifted the shutter a bit from inside," Afzalgunj Inspector Rameshaiah said.

Incidentally, the shop owner had a peculiar habit of keeping large amounts in gunny bags so that thieves would not get a clue where the money was kept even if they sneaked in.

"He would keep small amounts in the cash draw and huge money in gunny bags and other places," the Inspector said.

Surprisingly, Rs. 2,000-odd cash he kept in the cash bag was intact, but Rs. 86,000 concealed in gunny bag was stolen.

Moreover, there were no signs of ransacking the shop. All this pointed the needle of suspicion to insiders.
