FOR QUALITY POLICING: Cyberabad Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy being greeted by Home Secretary A.K. Srivastava and Dean of ICFAI N. Rajasekhar in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
HYDERABAD: Home Minister K. Jana Reddy has called for mutual understanding between the police and public for ensuring harmony and sense of security in the society. He was the chief guest at a function to mark the signing of Memorandum of Understanding between Cyberabad Police and ICFAI University Press here on Tuesday. After releasing a book-let on `Guidelines for a Safe Community' on the occasion, Mr. Jana Reddy said that often police and public ended up criticising each other because of attitudinal issues. "When the police exercise their power with a human face and courtesy, public's perception about policing would change and people would cooperate with law enforcers," he said. Reiterating that the Government was doing its best to bring in reforms in policing, he said such initiatives would bring forth several suggestions, which could be incorporated, into policies. He congratulated the Cyberabad Police Commissioner and the ICFAI Press for the initiative. The MoU between Cyberabad Police and the ICFAI University Press is a partnership initiative for a safe community. It aims at transforming Cyberabad police into a people-friendly and responsive police organisation while educating public about their duties and responsibilities and strengthening the public-police cooperation. The MoU was signed by ICFAI University Press Dean N. Rajasekhar and Cyberabad Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy in the presence of Home Minister and Principal Secretary, Home, A.K. Srivastava. Director General of Police Swaranjit Sen said that policing was more of a service than a profession. The book-let on Guidelines for a safe community was relevant for police as well as public.Mr. Mahender Reddy said the MoU was part of their exercise to improve quality of policing and make it a people-friendly one, to understand their requirements and give them a sense of security. ICFAI Vice -Chancellor J. Mahender Reddy spoke.
