Government urged to protect small banks

Staff Reporter

THRISSUR: The Dhanalakshmi Bank Officers Organisation (DBOA) has said that the Government has a responsibility to protect small-scale banks which are performing a yeomen service to meet the needs of the common man.

A resolution approved at the national meeting of the DBOA here on Sunday said the Centre should either nationalise the crisis-ridden old generation banks or merge them in the nationalised banks. The closure of the small-scale banks will be detrimental to the interests of the farmers and small- scale traders, the resolution said.

Inaugurating the meeting, C. K. Chandrappan, MP, said there was need for vigilance against the designs of multi-national monopolies to gulp the small-scale banks in the country. President of the All India Private Sector Bank Officers' Federation T. R. Bhat, vice-president of the All India Bank Officers' Confederation V. Iswaran and Mayor R. Bindu were among those who spoke on the occasion.
