21 from Tirupati for Republic Day parade

TIRUPATI: Twenty-one cadets from the Tirupati NCC group will represent the Andhra Pradesh Directorate for the Republic Day parade in New Delhi. The administrative officer of NCC group, S.M. Training in IT skills

Nellore: With a view to improving students' skills in information technology and communication, the district administration has decided to provide a three-month training to interested candidates. They should be in the age group of 18 to 35 and studied at least Class X. Applications have to be submitted to the District Youth Welfare Officer, Nellore, before November 3.

EDCET on October 30

Nellore: Authorities are busy making preparations for EDCET-2005 being conducted on October 30. According to information, 4,921 candidates are expected to attend the test, with 2,196 opting for social sciences. Fifteen educational institutions have been selected for the test, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. - Staff Reporter

Nellore: Five police constables belonging to Nellore district have been selected for the national-level duty meet, to be held at Madhuban, in Haryana, in February. They include K. Dies after consuming `spurious' toddy

ANANTAPUR: Dalita Ananthamma, 28, of Bommireddypalli village in Roddam mandal died on Tuesday reportedly after consuming spurious toddy at the neighbouring Mekalapalle village. According to the police, the woman's relatives lodged a complaint in this regard. - Staff Reporter

Husband dies as woman suffers burns

KADAPA: A newly married woman, Pooja, 25, who suffered 80 per cent burns in a fire accident, is battling for life. Unable to watch her writhe in pain, her physically challenged husband Gidda Suresh, 30, died of cardiac arrest in Proddatur Government Hospital on Wednesday. The couple got married only six months ago. - Staff Reporter

Farmer commits suicide

Sangareddy: Kistayya, 40, of Vargal committed suicide on Wednesday by consuming pesticide in his agricultural fields. According to the Gajwel police, Kistayya had his lunch and then drank the pesticide. The farmer reportedly availed of huge loans for personal purpose and was not able to repay them. - Staff Reporter

Union Minister to flag off `Simhapuri Express'

Nellore: `Simhapuri Express' between Gudur and Secunderabad will be flagged off at Gudur railway station at 10 a.m. by Minister of State for Railways R. Velu on Thursday. Jail for graft

HYDERABAD: The Government has dismissed former Transco Assistant Engineer M.P. Suresh from service and withheld the entire pension and gratuity of former Assistant Divisional Engineer V. Ram Mohan Rao following their conviction in a corruption case.

ACB officials on March 10, 1993, trapped the Assistant Engineer when he accepted Rs. 500 bribe for himself and on behalf of the Divisional Engineer, a press release said. - Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The executive committee meeting of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee, scheduled to be held on October 29, has been postponed to November 5, according to a PCC press release issued here on Wednesday. - Special Correspondent

TRS charge denied

HYDERABAD: K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, Adviser to Government (Public Affairs), has refuted the charges levelled by Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA K. Lingaiah that he made a bid to split the TRS.

"I assert that the Congress is least interested in either splitting the TRS or creating internal differences and has no axe to grind," he said in a statement on Wednesday. - Special Correspondent

Diploma exams put off

HYDERABAD: The Board of Technical Education announced on Tuesday that all diploma examinations scheduled for November 1 have been postponed to November 6 in view of the public holiday declared by the Government on account of Deepavali. There will be no change in the timings, G.V. Ranganath, secretary, has said in a press release. - Special Correspondent

Plea to renew `Janashree yojana'

HYDERABAD: The State unit of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) has urged the Government to immediately renew the `Janashree Bima Yojana' for autorickshaw drivers and rickshaw-pullers.

T. Venkateswarlu, secretary, in a letter to the Labour Commissioner on Wednesday said that the social security scheme, with subsidised premium, helped many families. - Special Correspondent

Farmer inhales `poisonous' gas, dies

Nellore: A farmer died reportedly after he inhaled poisonous gas emanating from a well in Tinnelapudi village of Kota mandal on Tuesday. He was getting into the well and expressed difficulty in breathing and later died. - Staff Reporter

Exams postponed

WARANGAL: With the State Government declaring holiday on November 1 on the occasion of Deepavali, the Kakatiya University has postponed all the examinations scheduled for the day.

Thal Sainik camp

WARANGAL: Intermediate second year student, Razia Sultana of LB College, represented Andhra Pradesh at Thal Sainik camp held at New Delhi recently. According to principal M. Shyamsunder Reddy, Razia Sultana took part in three training camps held at Warangal and Secunderabad earlier and was selected for the camp at national level.

Mandal secretary beaten up

Sangareddy: Gajwel mandal TDP secretary Venkatesam Goud was beaten up by his partymen alleging his hand in the defeat of the party in Cooperative elections. The mandal-level meeting turned into a virtual battleground with the party workers having a free for all. According to sources, TDP workers were angry with Mr. Goud for his alleged role in freeing an independent Rumandla Narsaiah from the secret camp organised by the party and handing him over to the Congress. As a result Narsaiah got elected as the Vice-Chairman with the support of Congress. - Staff Reporter

One killed in accident

Sangareddy: David, 26, an autorickshaw driver, was killed in an accident near Muttangi church on national highway nine on Wednesday. A speeding truck coming from Patancheru hit the vehicle, which David was driving. David died on the spot. The truck driver is absconding. - Staff Reporter
