Congress winning spree continues

Staff Reporter

KARIMNAGAR: The Congress continued its winning spree in the second phase of cooperative elections, winning 35 societies for which elections and counting of votes were held on Wednesday in the district.

On the other hand, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi secured majority in 17 cooperative societies in the second phase, winning from Huzurabad, Peddapalli and Kamalapur Assembly segments represented by TRS legislators.

While, the TDP won 12 societies, the BJP and independents won two each. The Congress secured absolute majority in the second phase of cooperative elections to occupy the coveted DCCB and DCMS chairmen posts.

Sangareddy: Congress has bagged a majority of seats in the second phase of cooperative elections with 334 of its candidates trouncing their nearest rivals in the poll that took place on Wednesday for 589 director posts.

Telugu Desam followed Congress with 180, TRS in 44, BJP in 15 and CPI in six. Polling was peaceful in the nine mandals of Medak and 15 mandals of Sangareddy sub-divisions. While Congress has won 13 director posts in Ippepally, it, however, failed to register even a single victory in Kandi.

Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) improved its performance in Nagapur, Kandi, Ismalkhanpet, Kondapur, and Terpol.

KHAMMAM: The second phase elections for the cooperatives societies in Khammam went off peacefully. The Congress had won a majority of the 54 of the 105 societies in both first and second phases. The Telugu Desam finished second with a tally of 27 as against 14 by the CPI(M). The CPI and the New Democracy won five and three respectively. The TRS also opened its account in the district by winning one society.

The police resorted to lathicharge in Errupalem for dispersing two clashing groups. CPI(M) district secretary T. S. Prasad was elected from the Wyra Cooperative society.

NALGONDA: Repeating its impressive performance in the just-concluded municipal elections, the Congress and the Communist parties retained majority of cooperative societies in Nalgonda district.

Of the 56 societies for which elections held on Wednesday, Congress could bag 39 chairmen posts while the CPI(M) won four.

Continuing its dismal performance, TDP won only 10 seats while the TRS and the CPI secured one post each. However, the result of a society at Timmapuram in Arvapally mandal was withheld for technical reasons, sources said. Of the total of 110 societies in the district, the Congress won 71 in the two-phased elections. The TDP bagged only 19 seats. Election for Yadagiripally society in Yadagirigutta mandal was postponed.
