Rajahmundry: The Central Prisons of Rajahmundry and Visakhapatnam have sent the list of 83 prisoners to the Government for premature release of prisoners on mercy in the eve of Golden Jubilee of Andhra Pradesh Formation Day on November 1. According to DIG of Prisons B. Mahender Reddy, the government asked the Jail Superintendents of the two jails to forward the cases fit for premature release. Superintendent of Rajahmundry Central Prisons A.G. Sainatha Reddy had sent 70 the names of persons while 10 were referred from Vizag. The DIG said that the State level screening committee with Home Secretary, Law Secretary, senior most official from General Administration Department and DG of Prisons will decide on the list of releases. Mr. Sainatha Reddy said that on August 15, 2004, the government has released 350 reformed prisoners with change in their conduct and attitude. At present there are 1,949 prisoners in Rajahmundry Central Prison, including women and open jail prisoners. Mr. Reddy said that, it is up to the screening committee and the government to decide on number of releases and they will be intimated about the number of releases even in last minute.
