HYDERABAD: Accepting a resolution adopted at the rebel meeting of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) last week, S. Santosh Reddy has taken over as president of the breakaway faction of the party. Claiming to represent the real TRS, Mr. Reddy said he would soon apply to the Election Commission for recognition of the outfit and leave the matter to the commission to act on the application. Mr. Reddy told reporters here on Thursday that the commission had already confirmed receipt of his complaint expelling him from the party. The violation of the party constitution in the expulsion was highlighted in the complaint. The MLA released a list of 43 office-bearers of the ad-hoc committee of the party while announcing his election as president. There were seven vice-presidents -- Gotte Bhupathi, Desini Chinamallaiah, Mechineni Kishan Rao, Mohd. Mazharuddin Ali, Bheemaiah, V. Jagannatha Rao and J. Chandrasekhar Rao-- and six general secretaries -- G. Sadanandam, Gade Innaiah, Taher Bin Hmdan, Boinpalli Hanumantha Rao, Ziauddin Mohsin and Nagnam Venkat Reddy. A 15-member presidium with former MP of Nizamabad M. Narayan Reddy as chairman was also constituted. The frontal organisations and district units would be announced later.
To meet Sonia
Mr. Reddy said some prominent leaders associated with him were not included as they could not be contacted. The programmes of the party under his leadership would begin with observing November 1 as protest day against State formation in the city, district and mandal headquarters. He announced an extended general body meeting of the outfit here between November 15 and 20. He would lead a party delegation to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to press the case of separate Telangana after the meeting. To a question whether he enjoyed the support of any of the other TRS MLAs, he said he would disclose it at the right time. He said he was unfazed by the call given by the rival TRS to obstruct his tours.
