KADAPA: The Government was trying to implement the World Bank-guided reforms in the power and agriculture sectors in a veiled manner, CPI district Secretary G. Obulesu alleged on Friday. He flayed Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy's advice to farmers not to cultivate paddy under borewells and agricultural wells. His assertion that farmers raising paddy under wells would not be eligible for free power smacked of World Bank diktats, he alleged here. While former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu preferred tourism promotion to agriculture, YSR Government was dissuading farmers from cultivating paddy and groundnut. Instead, he was all for pungamia and tamarind plantations, the CPI leader lamented. He called upon farmers to resist the Government policies.
