KOTHAGUDEM: Over 6,400 children from all parts of the State took part in the three-day Balotsav-2005, which was off to a colourful start in the coal town on Friday. The 14th State-level children's festival was organised by the Kothagudem Club. Inaugurating the Utsav, M. Subramanyam, Director (PA&W), Singareni Collieries, stressed the need for the revival of childhood games and arts, which were fading into oblivion. He said children should be encouraged in the direction of developing mastery of skills and helped to achieve positions of status among their peers. Many of the games cherished by generations of people should be revived. He commended the efforts being made by the Kothagudem Club for organising the Cultural festival as an annual event. L. S. Chowhan, Additional S.P (Operations), said that the children coming from all over the State were enjoying the festival, as it made their brief stay an action-filled as well as memorable one. Kothagudem Revenue Divisional Officer G.Manohar presided over the inaugural session. V. Rameshbabu, the club secretary, said the festival was attracting more children year after year. The club was providing free boarding and accommodation for the children participating in the various events. He said over 1,500 children came from outside the district. Many children participated in the drawing competition organised on Friday.
