Mayor pledges Pennar water for Kadapa

State urged to sanction Rs. 1.5 crores for pumping water

    KADAPA: Pennar river water will be pumped to cater to drinking water needs in Chinna Chowk, Akkayapalle and Chemmumiyapet areas in Kadapa Municipal Corporation under a new scheme within three months, Kadapa Mayor P. Ravindranath Reddy said on Friday.

    Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has been urged to sanction Rs. 1.50 crores for pumping Pennar water to the three erstwhile panchayats, he said. The Mayor, Deputy Mayor K. Nabi Rasool, Municipal Commissioner S. Aleem Basha, corporators and municipal officials toured 32, 33, 34, and 38 municipal divisions here to enlist the people's problems and resolve them.

    Drainage system in Chinna Chowk, Akkayapalle and Chemmumiyapet areas was improper and the problems would be resolved with the underground drainage system, the Mayor said.

    Rs. 65-cr. granted

    The Government has sanctioned Rs. 65 crores for an underground drainage system in Kadapa town, he said. It has also sanctioned Rs. 21 crores for constructing four high-level bridges in the town and Rs. 33 crores for beautification of Buggavanka stream course, he said.

    Assuring construction of a park in SBI Colony, he said a site was being identified. A four-lane road would be laid from the railway gate on Rayachoti road to Alamkhanpalle, he said. When people of 34th ward complained of a stagnant water pond, he directed officials to take up malaria control measures. In the 32nd ward, people complained of irregular supply of essential commodities by the fair price shop dealer. On the people's request, he ordered demolition of a compound wall of a private school that encroached onto the road.

    The Municipal Commissioner said grievance cell meetings were being held on every Monday. Deputy Mayor K. Nabi Rasool said the Government was striving to beautify Kadapa town and sought people's cooperation.
