TENALI (GUNTUR): Hundreds of fishes, valued at Rs.2 lakhs, were found dead in a six-acre private fish tank at Pinapadu in Tenali on Friday. Officials suspect that it could be due to the water from the nearby wetlands entering the tank due to the recent rain. The surrounding region is known for its high use of pesticides and it is suspected that the water from the fields might have had high chemical residues. Three persons took the tank on lease for breeding fish. Tenali Mandal Revenue Officer N.Yesurathnam said that investigation was on and policemen were deployed around the tank to prevent people from nearby areas from taking the dead fish for domestic consumption.
