EEPC to allot large space to SMEs in Hannover Fair 2006

Special Correspondent

Concessions for early bird bookings in National pavilion

CHENNAI: The Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC), organiser of the Indian Pavilion in Hannover 2006 (April 24-28), the world's leading technology fair in which India will be the Partner Country, will allocate the largest space in the pavilion to the SME (small and medium enterprises) sector.

According to V. K. Duggal, Director (Overseas) of the EEPC, and R. K. Mutha, Regional Deputy Chairman, another advantage for SMEs is that the Indian Pavilion (Hall No. 6) will be located close to hall Nos. 3, 4 and 5 which will be dedicated to industrial subcontracting -- a theme that is of particular interest to SMEs.

Making a presentation at a meeting organised by the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC) here on Monday, the EEPC officials announced that bookings for participants in the national pavilion would open on November 15 and that an "early bird incentive" of freight-free transfer of exhibits of up to one cubic metre would be available for bookings made on or before February 22, 2006. According to the presentation, out of the net exhibition space of 6,500 sq. m. excluding the India Theme section in the national pavilion, 2,025 sq. m. will be devoted to SMEs and 1,500 sq. m. to corporate houses. Other allocations will include public sector undertakings (PSUs) 800 sq. m., service sector 225 sq. m., State corporations 300 sq. m., technical laboratories 150 sq. m. and meeting room 750 sq. m. The SME sector for purposes of the fair will be defined in terms of a maximum turnover, which was yet to be decided, Mr. Duggal clarified.

(Indian exhibitors can, and normally do, participate independently outside the national pavilion, in various halls which suit them in terms of themes, and the EEPC is organising only the India Pavilion).

The tariff for exhibitors in the national pavilion is available in options of carpeted space without built up stall and fully built-up stall, respectively, at Rs. 12,000 per sq. m. and Rs. 20,000 per sq. m. A concessional rate of Rs. 17,000 for built-up stall will be available to SMEs and the services sector. Wolfgang Pech, Managing Director of Hannover Messe, made a presentation on the overall Hannover Fair 2006 and its many new features.
