AMARAVATHI (GUNTUR DT): The Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department has taken up road improvement works on 11 different roads connecting Amaravathi town for the Kalachakra Buddhist initiation ceremony in January and the works are progressing at a brisk pace. Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, R&B Superintending Engineer D.V. Bhavanna Rao said that 14 road widening works valued at Rs.22.14 crores of 11 different roads were being taken up. Important roads among them are those connecting Amaravathi and Sattenepalli, Thulluru, Guntur, Mangalagiri, Tadikonda and Undavalli.
New method
The R&B engineers were also using latest technology, which had proved to be cost-effective and had a longer life. The earlier method of laying the roads was using Water Bound Macadam (WBM). However, WBM roads had a lesser life as they were frequently damaged when heavy vehicles travelled over these roads and whenever there was water logging due to rains. But in the new method adopted by the engineers, sub-base and base material was laid over the soil, and rolled by the road roller.
